Activities
Campus Ministries
One of Christ’s final acts before leaving earth was to
commission His disciples to spread the good news of the
gospel to all the inhabitants of the earth. We believe that
we can present the gospel through various means and
understand that God has given different gifts and talents to
each one of His children to use in furthering His cause.
Mount Vernon Academy strives to provide it’s students
with ample opportunities to practice their Christianity,
realizing that “faith by itself, if not accompanied by
action, is dead” (James 2:17).
Mission Trips
Each year, MVA students have the opportunity to use their
gifts in helping others in an area where help is not readily
available, be it in another country or just around the corner
in the United States. Each February, MVA participates
in a foreign mission trip and in an “in-country” mission
trip. Past trips have included projects such as building
churches, painting educational facilities, feeding the
homeless, preparing and presenting Vacation Bible
Schools for children, preaching sermons through a
translator, and much more. There are few things more
rewarding than using one’s God-given gifts to help those
less fortunate.
Local Needs
There are needs in our own community that
MVA students have helped to meet. The
front page of the Mount Vernon News
reported that “residents of Mount Vernon
and students from Mount Vernon Academy
teamed up…to provide some relief to
residents in two Ohio towns hit hard by
flooding” (Mount Vernon News, Tuesday,
Sept. 21, 2004). Translating a Christian
character into action, students and faculty
are continually on the lookout for those in
the community that can be helped through
our efforts. Throughout the year, academy
students can be seen collecting food and
supplies for flood and hurricane victims,
relaying food to shut-ins and the poor, raking
leaves for entire villages, and helping
clean up from natural disasters.
Prayer focused
There is power in prayer. In fact, it is only through
constant dependence and connection with Jesus through
prayer that God’s will can be successfully accomplished
through us. With that in mind, Mount Vernon Academy
has participated in many student-led prayer sessions
within the local community. One such effort, the national
“See You at the Pole” event, was held at the Mount
Vernon City Square. Daniel Dettwiler, 2005-07 Student
Association Pastor, led the
effort to pray with and for
the city and its leaders.
Various Activities
Other efforts have included
the entire student body
spending hours going door
to door throughout the city
praying with the residents
for whatever needs they had.
Through efforts like these,
students and residents alike
are blessed, and God’s name
is glorified.
