MVA Students Say "Thanks"
Recently, students were asked to voluntarily share their their thoughts about Mount Vernon Academy. In the first paragraph of each response, the students respond to the question, "Why did you decide to attend MVA?" In the second paragraph, they provide a personal thank you to the alumni and friends of MVA.

The teachers, deans, and staff are caring and they are willing to sacrifice what little time they have to help us, pray with us, and help us define who we are. Here, we are a big warm cozy family, and we never feel alone. They make education fun, and worthwhile, while still learning about God.
Dear Alumni and friends: Thank you for the sacrifices you have made to fulfill my desire to attend MVA and learn about God. May God bless you.
Young lady (10th Grade)
I’m attending MVA because I believe that when I’m here, I’m a better person. The friendships that I developed here are some of the best. I wanted to be in a school where I could worship God and develop my Christianity to a higher level.
I want to thank the alumni for helping me and my friends out financially, without them I would not be here today or even at a Christian school.
Young man (9th Grade)
I wanted a good Christian education and also because my sister and good friends are here. I’m very grateful that my parents sent me to MVA and helped me in loving and caring for me.
I thank all of the alumni very much and I feel that the money you have given us and the love you have shown us will help MVA tremendously. I will pray for you and just want to thank you so very much!

I was always scared to talk about God in public school. People even made fun of the fact that I prayed at lunch! I am also happy that I got to see what it was that made a difference in my cousin’s life.
Thank you guys so much! Your donations have made a difference.
Young lady (11th Grade)
I came here to become closer to Christ, to be able to play sports that weren’t on Sabbath, and to make friends who had the same beliefs. Thank you so much for all your support. This school has truly changed my life. I feel as though I grow even closer to Christ everyday.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Young lady (11th Grade)
I was an outcast at the public school where I lived. I wanted to find some where I belonged. That’s what I found and that’s why I’m still here!
Even if you can’t send money, prayer is greatly needed too. Thank you all so much! Without your help, I wouldn’t even have a dream of being here!
Young man (11th Grade)
I am attending MVA because it is an Adventist school. Also, my parents both went here and their parents before them. This school provides a different environment than most schools.
Thank you so much for helping me receive a good Adventist education. I don’t know what I would do without your help and support.
Young lady (10th Grade)
I wanted to come to MVA for the Christian education, and also to make new friends that did not think I was weird but I was just like them. I also came to play sports that did not conflict with the Sabbath.
I could never have gotten here without the alumni and their donations. They have been so gracious in giving.
Young man (10th Grade)
I came to MVA for a Christian education and atmosphere. Also, it was the closest Adventist academy. God put me here.
Thank you so much for your love and sacrifice. Every person here is God’s special child and this school would not be the same if any were missing. Thanks!
Young lady (10th Grade)
I came here mainly because my parents wanted me to get an Adventist education. I have never been to a public school and I don’t plan on attending one ever.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to come here. When I become an alumnus, I will donate as well.
Young lady (11th Grade)
The reason why I am at MVA is because where I’m from, is a place where no child should be. I did not like being at school so I would just leave and skip for the rest of the day. But another reason is to grow spiritually.
Thank you for helping to give money for those of us who aren’t able to do it on our own. But know this, for all the money you help us with (even though you may be sick and going through things) God is going to bless you in the long run.
Young lady (10th Grade)
I am here for my friends that I love, because the sports don’t conflict with the Sabbath, and because I love my basketball coaches. People here are always friendly. I don’t want to go to public school. I love to sing and I want to be in a Christian choir.
I really appreciate the money that you give for my education. I really enjoy going here and it’s such an awesome opportunity. It’s been a great experience!
Young lady (12th Grade)
I love MVA; the people, the atmosphere, my friends, the level of education, the music programs, and the special programs.
Thank you so much for supporting MVA. Your money is being put to good use to help us grow academically and spiritually. Thank you for letting the Lord use you.
Young man (10th Grade)
My friends are here. I also wanted a Christian education and a better environment.
Thank you so much for your donations. My family is personally in a hard place financially. I know this money is much needed. You can’t know how much it means to us.
Young lady (11th Grade)
I had heard that MVA had very good academics. Also, I was looking for a place where I could confidently develop mentally, spiritually, and socially.
Thank you so much for helping me achieve my goals of finishing high school. My family has financial issues and your helping my mom is a blessing.
Young lady (11th Grade)
I attend MVA because this is a place where knowing God is allowed and encouraged. I don’t have to worry about my friends being totally against God or completely unaware of Him.
Thank you, alumni, for your support. You make it possible for this school to be up and running. You provide me with a beautiful place where I get to know God better.
Young lady (12th Grade)
I couldn’t go home and don’t want to because I have a bad history at public school, and I live in a bad neighborhood with gangs, drugs, and holdups.
Thank you for all that you have done for us here at MVA. We wouldn’t be the school we are without you. I want to again thank you and wish you the best. May God truly bless you for all you have done.
Young man (11th Grade)
I am attending MVA because I believe it will strengthen my relationship with God and help me to be a better person. I believe it provides me with a solid education and wonderful Christian fellowship.
Thank you so much for your gifts that allow me to attend MVA. After losing my dad almost two years ago, my mother was forced to carry the burden of paying for my sister and me to attend here alone. It is your gifts that make this possible.
Young lady (10th Grade)
When I attended public school, it didn’t seem to have a purpose and I knew I needed something better. I wanted teachers that actually helped me. I wanted to come to a school that was different from the rest of the world.
Thank you so much for helping us. I probably would’ve never come here, if it weren’t for you. I appreciate the great effort you do. Thank you with all of my heart. God Bless.
Young lady (9th Grade)
My dad is an alumni and my old school was very overcrowded. There was a lot of violence and sexual activity in my home school and classes were terribly impersonal. Also, I had no time to think about Christ and no time for worship.
Since my mother isn’t working and my dad just started a new job, it’s very hard for them to afford to send my sister and me both here, as well as my brother in three years. Thank you very much.
Thanks again for supporting our students!
