Alumni
Established 100 years ago as the first Seventh-day
Adventist boarding academy, Mount Vernon boasts a rich heritage with over
7,000 graduates. Our alumni have gone on to make significant contributions
throughout the world. Dr. Harry Miller, The China Doctor, graduated from
MVA in 1898 - the first graduating class. Other outstanding alumni are Stewart
Bainum, founder of Choice Hotels; Dr. Robert B. Summerour, founder of the
Wedgwood Trio; and Faith Esham, New York Metropolitan Opera.
It is the alumni support that has helped to sustain
the school. Over the last six years, alumni have contributed over $600,000
in gifts to the Annual Giving Campaign. It is also notable that there has
been a significant increase in alumni participation in the Annual Giving
Campaign. In 2003, twenty-six percent of alumni invested in MVA.
In 2001, it was the support and involvement of
alumni that helped to encourage leaders to take bold steps to begin a
revitalization plan. The impact is evident. Without MVA, there would be no
alumni association but without the alumni association, there could be no
MVA.
Thank-you to all alumni, friends and donors who
do so much to ensure quality Christian education exists for young people
in Ohio. Your support is deeply appreciated.
